The Mirror in Your Eyes

The mirror in your eyes

I started ticking,

A checklist I didn’t realise I had,

The moment you opened your mouth,

Perhaps before.

With your every word,

My nods grew emphatic,

My attention sharpened,

With every tick,

Something clicked.

With every word,

My dreams and desires,

Spilled from lovely lips,

Diamonds glinting in the sun.

Something unrealised,

Leapt in my empty chest,

I drank your images,

Into my parched heart,

Saw the man I might be,

In your eyes.

With a laughing sweep,

You ignited passion,

Erupted lust, love and life,

The child in me danced for joy,

We danced for joy.

dance forever in your debt.
